Yellowjackets Season 3 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See

Summary

  • Coach Ben may still be alive in the present, despite the dangers he faces in the wilderness. His survival would be a fitting ending considering his experiences.
  • Nat has become the Antler Queen and must exercise her power. Her journey from being an outsider to a leader is a small consolation for her untimely death.
  • The identity of the mystery girl trapped in the pit and why she was cast out by the group remains one of the show’s biggest mysteries that needs to be resolved.

Yellowjackets is one of the most shocking shows on television, and now that season 3 is fast approaching, there are a lot of moments that the series needs to deliver after the events of season 2. The show leaves the audience guessing until the last moment, and every twist and turn the plot takes is nearly impossible to predict. However, that doesn’t stop the writers from teasing hints at what the future holds and making it easy to speculate on what will happen next.

Premiering on Showtime in 2021, the series follows a group of women who survived a plane crash and the subsequent nineteen months stranded in the wilderness. Flashing between the lives of the survivors in the present day, and the events that took place in the woods in the ’90s, the series doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to gore, horror, and trauma. At the same time, the show delivers equal amounts of empathy and compassion for the experiences of these women and shows how strong their bond is. Each of these elements come together to make a deliciously compelling show, that’s agonizing to wait for.

Yellowjackets season 2, episode 9 ended on both tragic and shocking notes, changing the survivors’ stories of the past and present in unexpected ways.

10 Coach Ben Still Alive In The Present

The reveal that his older self is out there somewhere

The only adult among a group of feral and hormonal teenagers, Ben (Steven Krueger) quickly loses the authority he once had as the girls’ soccer coach in the real world. Since the start of the series, it seems like Ben is always going to be the next person killed, eaten, or worse, but he keeps on evading death. In the present, there has been no sign of his older self, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still alive and simply avoiding the remaining women. A twist in which Ben makes it through the wilderness alive might sound far-fetched, but it would be a deserving ending considering all he’s been through.

9 Teen Natalie Taking Charge As The Antler Queen

Now that she has been crowned, she needs to exercise her power

Natalie and Lottie arguing in Yellowjackets

At the end of season 3, Lottie (Courtney Eaton) handed the antlers over to Nat (Sophie Thatcher) and crowned her as the queen which has been hinted at throughout the series. This was especially heartbreaking considering that Nat (Juliette Lewis), in the present, was accidentally killed in the season 3 finale. However, seeing Nat in the wild come out of her shell and truly be accepted not only as one of the group but as a leader, would be a small consolation for losing her. Though the Antler Queen isn’t a position to be taken lightly, it’s clear that Nat has the skills and power to hold her own.

8 Who The Girl In The Pit Is

And why she is cast out by the group

One of the Yellowjackets looking into the pit in the premiere

In the premiere of the show, an unknown girl is seen running through the woods and being trapped in a pit by the Yellowjackets and the Antler Queen. Up until now, there are little clues and few ideas as to who she is, and why the wilderness, and the girls, chose her to be sacrificed. She is seen wearing the necklace that Jackie (Ella Purnell) passes on to Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), but Shauna is one of the people it’s certain were not eaten. Finding out the identity of the mystery girl would conclude one of the biggest and longest mysteries of the show.

7 The Yellowjackets Coming Together To Mourn Nat

Saying goodbye and healing as a group

Juliette Lewis and Sophie Thatcher and adult and young Natalie in Yellowjackets Season 2 finale

Nat’s passing was one of the most shocking deaths in Yellowjackets season 2 and her loss is the one the remaining women will feel the most. Both unfair and untimely, it’s hinted that her death is what the wilderness wanted, and her “sacrifice” will bring prosperity to the surviving women. However, it seems unlikely that anyone will be glad or grateful to say goodbye to Nat. Especially Misty (Christina Ricci), who considered Nat to be her best friend and feels responsible for her death. In the wake of the tragedy, it would be amazing if it brought the women closer and allowed them to work together to stop the wilderness.

6 Shauna And Callie Growing Closer

As they learn to become mother and daughter in their own way

After the trauma that she suffered in the wild with the loss of her child, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) always had trouble connecting with her daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins) and letting herself love her. However, after Callie discovers the secrets that Shauna has been hiding, it ends up bringing them closer and then brings out sides of each other they didn’t know were there. While the activities they get up to maybe more legally dubious than normal family events, it’s still gratifying to see them connect, and intriguing to see what they would be capable of together.

5 Misty And Walter Getting Together

A perfectly unconventional couple

Misty and Walter looking puzzled in Yellowjackets

Misty’s first and deepest loyalty is to the other Yellowjackets, but when Walter (Elijah Wood) appears on the scene, he quickly melts her heart and shows they are cut from the same cloth. In helping her find her friends and cover up her crimes, he proved himself trustworthy in her eyes, and she began to let him in and see him as an equal. However, there’s a chance that he might be up to something, and using Misty for his own ends. It would be delightful for Misty to get a true ally who sees her for who she is, but as a Yellowjacket she must keep her guard up.

4 Taissa And Van Staying Together In The Present

Rekindling an old familiar flame

Yellowjackets Season-2 Taiss and Van hugging

In the wilderness, Tai (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Van (Liv Hewson) are the beating heart of the Yellowjackets and their connection is part of what keeps them both sane. However, in the present, they are in different places and haven’t seen each other in years when they reunite and take comfort in each other. Although many factors might prevent them from staying together, there’s no one else in the world who understands the struggles they’ve been through and can provide the support they need. If they can find a way to make it work, and the wilderness does cure Van’s cancer, there’s no question that they should be endgame.

3 The Identity Of The Man Taissa Sees Is Revealed

And the other strange occurrences surrounding Tai

The man with no eyes watching Tai in Yellowjackets

Though Lottie is considered to be the spiritual connection to the wilderness and the one with visions, Taissa still has her fair share of supernatural occurrences. Since season 1, she has been sleepwalking and seeing The Man With No Eyes everywhere she goes, but who he is and what his purpose is has never become clear. He might be a connection to the wilderness, but he might be a new entity unto himself that reveals something else about Tai and her past. Regardless, this mystery and many more surrounding Tai need to be addressed in season 3.

2 Teen Travis Feeling The Loss Of His Brother

Mourning his brother in the limited space of the wilderness

Javi (Luciano Leroux) found in Yellowjackets

Travis (Kevin Alves) has a difficult time in the wilderness, as it quickly becomes the domain of the Yellowjackets and he is an outsider. However, when the girls let Javi (Luciano Leroux) die so they can eat him at the end of season 2, it’s a horrific act. Though Travis does what he must to survive, his reaction to this deep loss remains unseen. In the next season, there needs to be a moment when Travis allows himself to grieve and process the unthinkable tragedy he has experienced. However, if he fully committed himself to the wilderness as it seems, the audience may never see him get any closure.

1 Teen Shauna Challenging Nat’s Claim As Antler Queen

Doing whatever it takes to be crowned queen

In the finale of season 2 Yellowjackets sets up Natalie and Shauna’s new enemy in the wilderness. When Lottie picks Nat to be the Antler Queen, it comes as a shock to Shauna, who believes that she is more worthy and deserving of the role. After the events between Jackie and Shauna in season 1, it’s clear that, when pushed, Shauna is capable of anything. Seeing these two smart, and exceedingly different, young women enter into a power struggle with such high stakes is intense, but makes for excellent television. Each girl takes a different approach when it comes to survival and gaining influence, but only one can be queen.
