Dune: Part Three receives an encouraging but cautious update from director Denis Villeneuve.

Ahead of Part Two‘s release in March 2024, there have been a few updates on the status of Dune: Part Three, which would adapt the book Dune Messiah. During a press conference in South Korea (via TongTongCulture), Villeneuve said the script is “almost finished.” However, if Part Three is greenlit, the director might want to take time to do something else in between before making it. Read his full comments below:

[Dune Messiah is] being written right now. The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time… There’s a dream of making a third movie… it would make absolute sense to me.

I don’t know exactly when I will go back to Arrakis. I might make a detour before just to go away from the sun. For my mental sanity I might do something in between, but my dream would be to go a last time on this planet that I love.

More to come…
