Damning John Wick TV Spinoff Comments Confirm Ana De Armas’ Ballerina Has Avoided Past Mistakes

Summary

  • Ballerina has the potential to succeed and become a successful spin-off to the John Wick franchise, showcasing Ana De Armas’s range and expanding the rich lore of the series.
  • The involvement of the original cast and crew, including Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves, and Chad Stahelski, is crucial to the success of Ballerina and maintaining the John Wick legacy.
  • Despite its promising future, Ballerina is in a tough position as its failure could damage the legacy established by the main entries in the franchise, while its success may lead to more sequels and spin-offs.

Although the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick franchise continues to impress audiences nearly a decade after its first installment, the spin-off movie Ballerina must be mindful of a few important creative decisions in order to replicate the revenge thriller’s long-lasting success. With Ballerina set for a June 7, 2024 release, it won’t be long before audiences get an opportunity to see how Ana De Armas’s action thriller compares to that of its more established predecessor. All of the updates regarding the spin-off are postive, leaving audiences anticipating the new installment with many exciting things to expect from Ballerina.

Even with Ballerina competing with De Armas’s role in No Time To Die, the new movie is still in a prime position to succeed as it can showcase the actress’s range. However, despite the promising news regarding the latest entry in the series, recent comments made by one of the franchise’s biggest stars suggest that Ballerina and its spinoff story aren’t beyond reproach when matters of how it should continue the John Wick legacy are concerned. While John Wick: Chapter 4 impressed both audiences and critics, another project in the series’ repertoire didn’t live up to the expectations set by a previous project.

Ballerina Has John Wick’s Team More Involved Than The Continental

John Wick director Chad Stahelski only served as an executive producer on The Continental.

Colin Woodell as Winston Scott in The Continental's third episode.

Winston actor Ian McShane’s comments about The Continental‘s poor reception reinforce the importance of the key staff from the movies. While the prequel series was always a risky move considering it’s entirely devoid of John Wick, it isn’t surprising that it pales considerably in comparison to the movies. Furthermore, the lack of John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s direct involvement suggests that the series needs the original cast and crew back to be successful. With Ballerina bringing McShane and Reeves back along with Stahelski in a producer capacity, it should fare much better.

Ana De Armas’ Ballerina Could Make Or Break John Wick’s Spinoff Future

Ballerina could reinvigorate the John Wick franchise if it succeeds or effectively kill it if it fails.

Ballerina - A ballerina with back tattoos dancing on stage to an empty audience

While everything from Ballerina‘s premise of one of the ballerina characters briefly seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum avenging the death of her family to cameo appearances from both Winston and John Wick, Ballerina is already shaping up to be a successful spin-off to the John Wick franchise. Furthermore, with Ballerina being set in the middle of the John Wick franchise and the most recent fourth entry, the upcoming action thriller provides a unique opportunity to expand the rich lore of the franchise in a way not yet seen.

However, despite all roads leading to a successful future for Ballerina, it’s also in a tough position as its failure to perform as well or even better than John Wick: Chapter 4 could do irreparable damage to the legacy established by the main entries in the franchise. Alternatively, Ballerina‘s success will likely lead to more sequels in its own franchise as well as other John Wick characters getting spin-offs, thus further expanding the series’ already incredible worldbuilding. While it remains to be seen, Ballerina will need to perform well to uphold the John Wick legacy.
